Who can apply? Anyone working with children and young people (aged 0-18) as part of deanery, parish or locality development plans in the Diocese of Durham. The application must be supported by a parish or deanery and all grants will be paid through a parish, deanery or locality bank account. Applications must have the support of children or young people. If the application is for a grant to support a new project, this can be shown by, for example, evidence of consultation with young people in the target age group. Where an existing group is applying, the application should be made by, or contain supporting information from, the young people themselves. Grants must benefit more than one person. Priority will be given to applications from groups and parishes with limited resources. What can you apply for? Anything that will help group of children or young people to connect with the Christian gospel. The Panel will give priority to projects that:
The Panel will not give grants for 'one-off' events that are not part of the program me of a group. If you are not successful you can apply again in six months time. If you are successful, you will not be able to reapply for a year. Ask Jef is a three year programme, beginning in September 2008 and ending in August 2011, and the maximum number of grants you can receive from ask Jef is two. How much can I apply for? Usually grants will be up to £500. In a very limited number of exceptional cases, the Panel may give a grant of up to £1000. If you apply for a grant of £500 or more, you will need to send us a copy of your most recent accounts. It is a good idea to apply for other grants, and a successful application will not disqualify you from receiving a grant from Ask Jef. How do you apply? Complete the application questions on the Ask Jef website (www.askjef.co.uk), and send it to apply@askjef.co.uk. If you want to send any other supporting material, please contact info@askjef.co.uk or Ask Jef, Carter House, Pelaw Leazes Lane, Durham, DH1 1TB; tel 0191 374 6000. What happens to your application? The panel meets every quater to consider the applications, usually in December, March, June and September. When your application arrives, someone from the panel will contact you to talk to you about the grant, and if you have applied for more than £250, you will probably receive a visit from a Panel member (who will be CRB cleared) to talk about your plans. A panel of at least four people will consider your application. This will include young people (under 25). What happens if you are awarded a grant? You have four months to spend the grant and send a brief report telling us how you have used it. If for any reason it is no longer possible to spend the money on the project you applied for, you must contact Ask Jef to return the money. You will be able to apply for a new grant if this happens. Once you've received the grant, a member of the panel may visit to see how you are getting on. We may also contact you for more information about how it went for publicity purposes. In that way your storey can inspire more groups to make things happen. Need more information? Contact info@askjef.co.uk or Carter House, Pelaw Leazes Lane, Durham, DH1 1TB Tel: 0191 374 6000. |
